A Blue Cave tour from Hvar in short
The Blue Cave (Modra špilja) is not on Hvar. It lies on the east side of the island of Biševo, in the bay of Balun, about 8.3 km (4.5 nautical miles) from Komiža on the island of Vis. Hvar is the starting point for many boat trips, and the crossing takes roughly 1 hour on a fast boat, depending on the weather and the boat. It is not a scheduled ferry time.
Most Blue Cave tours from Hvar are day trips by boat that visit Biševo and often Vis as well. Whether the cave entry is part of the price is a question for each offer, so read what is included before you pay. For other boat days, see boat trips from Hvar.

Our picks: Blue Cave tours
The Blue Cave is on Biševo, not on Hvar, so every pick is a full day by boat. The ticket is paid extra on most days, so ask before booking whether it is included, and note that the route changes if the cave is closed.
Hand-picked tours, booked through GetYourGuide and Viator. Prices are indicative starting prices in euros (as of October 2026). Tap a tour for live availability and the current price in your currency.

Light, weather and the visit itself
What decides whether the cave looks blue and whether you get in.
Best light
The light is best from about 10:00 to 14:00, depending on the season. These are no entry times and no booked slots.
Weather and closures
In bad weather or when the cave is closed, the route or the programme can change. The boat trip and the entry into the cave are two separate decisions, and no one can promise you a place inside. Keep your plan flexible and check the offer terms on refunds.
How you get in
You visit only with the concession holder. The transfer leaves from Mezoporat, and plan about 40 minutes for the visit from that departure. That is not the time you spend inside the cave. The cave is a protected natural monument, in place since 1951.
No swimming in the cave
Swimming, snorkelling and diving in the Blue Cave are not allowed. Do not disturb or take animals, do not leave litter, do not fish, and do not anchor or moor on your own in the monument. Do not enter with your own boat.
On Biševo itself
Stay on the marked paths, keep dogs on a lead, do not camp, light no fires and take no plants.
Stiniva and the Green Cave
Two other stops that often appear on island-hopping days.
Stiniva on Vis
Stiniva is a protected landscape bay on Vis and a summer swimming spot. It is a fragile rock formation. Free access for motorboats, cliff jumping or a safe climb down to the beach is not something to count on.
The Green Cave on Ravnik
The Green Cave (Zelena špilja) is on the island of Ravnik, south-east of Vis, and not the same cave as the Blue Cave. Check the current entry rules and whether swimming is allowed before you plan around it.
Hvar to Vis by regular boat is a short hop, but a same-day return for a guest starting from Hvar is not guaranteed. The day trips from Hvar page explains this in more detail.

Blue Cave from Hvar: frequently asked questions
Is the Blue Cave on Hvar?
No. It is on the east side of Biševo, a small island next to Vis. Hvar is a starting point for boat trips.
How much is the Blue Cave entry in 2026?
Adults pay €24 in high season (20 June to 10 September) and €18 in low season. Children aged 6 to 12 pay €12 or €9, and children under 6 enter free. A tour from Hvar may or may not include this ticket.
Can I swim in the Blue Cave?
No. Swimming, snorkelling and diving in the cave are not allowed. Most boat trips add a separate swim stop elsewhere.
When is the light best?
Roughly 10:00 to 14:00, depending on the season. It is a guide to the light, not a time slot.
What if the weather is bad?
The cave can close and the route can change. Entry cannot be guaranteed, so check the refund terms of your offer before you pay.
Is this the official Blue Cave website?
No. This is an independent guide to Hvar and does not sell cave tickets. Entry is organised by the concession holder on Biševo.
